Sandwich Community Television provides training classes to its members on all aspects of studio and field video production. See the following table for upcoming classes and then complete the form below to sign up. You can also call the station at 508-888-6800 to enroll.

Orientation The class is for new members and covers the responsibilities of a producer, cablecast guidelines, overview of the production process and tour of the facility.

This class is a prerequisite for all other classes.

One 1.5-hour session.

Basic Field Production For those on the go, this class certifies our producers to use the field equipment. Learn to shoot on site and deal with a variety of lighting, logistical and acoustical conditions. Hands on training with SVHS and digital camcorders.

Advanced Field Production Having a tough time capturing the essence of your kids' Little League games with only one camera? Need three camera angles to accurately capture your grass growing?

Learn to set up and direct a multiple camera production. If you love cables and mass confusion, this is the place to be. (Just kidding about that mass confusion stuff. Mild panic would have been a better description.)

Three 2-hour sessions.

Basic Studio Production Tired of being unrecognized? Getting bumped in line at the RMV? Looking for respect? If so, you might try wearing a Santa suit every time you leave the house.

But if you're interested in producing a television show, this is the class you want. Learn everything you need to know to set up, shoot, edit and submit your program for cablecast. You could be a star!

Four 2-hour sessions.

Studio Camera Operator It's fun! Not usually too exciting, but it's fun!! Learn how to operate the studio cameras and become part of a television crew. It's fun! (Did I mention that?)

One 1-hour session.

Character Generator If you can type an email to your mom, you can learn to be an expert character generator. That's the person who is responsible for the credits, scrolls, crawls, photographs and other stuff that pops up on the screen during a program.

One 1 to 2-hour session.

Studio & Field Lighting Ever wonder why your Christmas morning home movies always look like home movies? Or the kids dancing at the bar mitzvah are barely recognizable? Perhaps you showed up at the wrong bar mitzvah. But, more likely, the lighting was poor, or nonexistent.

Learn how to remedy these problems in the field and the studio.

One 1 to 1.5-hour session.

Video Switcher Did you ever see a newscaster toss to the weatherman and, instead, the sportscaster pops up by surprise, picking his nose?

You can do that too!

Learn the ins and outs of cutting, cross fading, split screening, superimposing and all that other good stuff that technical directors do.

Audio Mixer Does the sight of a thousand knobs, buttons and sliders intimidate you? They won't after you take this audio mixer course and become the next George Martin.

Linear Editing Got video? Let us show you how to assemble it, title it, narrate it... linear editing is the fundamental building block for editing of any kind.

Classes limited to two persons and are scheduled by request.

Digital Editing on Screenplay What's non-linear editing? Good question. Come find out how to use the power of a computer to assemble and edit your own videos. The system accepts video from VHS, SVHS and MiniDV cassettes, as well as DVDs.

If you ever tried to add titles to your home videos using the editing features of your digital camcorder, you are one frustrated puppy. Learn how to apply professional-looking crossfades, wipes, titles and other special effects to your videos and prepare them for airing.

Individual sessions preferred.

Digital Editing on the Macintosh Same concepts as above, but the Final Cut Pro software has a million more features. It's a lot more complex to use as well, so go to the Screenplay class first and then decide if you need more power to create your masterpiece.

Prerequisite: Digital Editing on Screenplay (or prior experience with Final Cut Pro)
