How do I become a producer?

We make this process as easy as possible, recognizing that it is in our community's interest to encourage residents of Sandwich to produce television programs. To become a producer, you must read and understand the SACAT Operating Rules & Procedures, read and sign the various forms included in the Producer Packet, and pay the annual membership fee of $25. This fee can be reduced for individuals who are unable to afford it.

Print the Producer Packet, read and sign the forms, and bring or mail the packet to 11 Jan Sebastian Drive, unit 10 (in the Sandwich Industrial Park), Sandwich, MA 02563.

What kind of shows can I run?

Your imagination is the only constraint on what you can develop for a program or program format.  Further information is available in the Producer Packet and Operating Rules & Procedures.

Is there training available?

Glad you asked. One of the purposes of SACAT is to provide training to residents of Sandwich in the use of the station's equipment and the process for producing and airing television programs. These classes are organized regularly and are advertised on the station's community bulletin board. Click here to see the current training schedule and sign up for a class.

How can I recruit a crew?

Producers are encouraged to become crew members for each other, thereby developing their own technical skills while making it possible for fellow producers to videotape their programs in a professional setting. Additionally, you may recruit non-producers to operate equipment for your show, but they must be certified by the Executive Director on equipment operation and must comply with the Operating Rules & Procedures.

How big is the viewing audience?

SACAT serves the 20,000+ residents of Sandwich through approximately 7,500 subscriptions to cable television. Budget constraints prevent us from subscribing to the Nielson Media Research ratings service, but the Board of Directors commissions surveys of viewers from time to time with the objective of determining the size of our viewership, their viewing preferences, etc.

Can I get my program broadcast on other access television stations?

Yes. The simplest way to do this is to get a member of another community's access television station to sponsor your program. In doing so, this person will take the same responsibilities for program content that you do when producing a program for Sandwich Community Television.

How many times will my program be broadcast?

You are guaranteed one airing of your program as long as it is in compliance with the program content rules as outlined in the Operating Rules & Procedures manual. Additional broadcasts are dependent on scheduling commitments for the other programs that are part of the Sandwich Community Television lineup. You should speak directly with the Executive Director to request broadcast time slots or click here to submit a request online.
